It is most commonly used to adjust the pH of pharmaceutical formulations, ensuring the stability and effectiveness of the active ingredients. It is used in gels and ointments, mainly for wound care solutions and skin protection. As pH buffer it is also used in modern mRNA based vaccines and drugs that are used for X-ray/MRI contrast.
